Just last week, Tucson and 10West hosted a great week of art, culture, music, technology, and entrepreneurship that spread from downtown to the University of Arizona campus. If you were there, you’ll probably agree that this inaugural 10West festival was a fantastic first run. If you weren’t there, be sure to mark your calendar for next October for surely 10West will continue to grow and get even better each year.
Great leadership and organization made this event possible, with Larry Hecker, Justin Williams, Greg Teesdale, and the IdeaFunding committee heading the effort. Startup Tucson supported an informative series for startup companies, discussing the steps of starting a company on a shoe-string budget to funding growth and leveraging academic and community resources. Each day ended with a networking event where a diverse crowd, from Desert Angels investors and community business leaders to entrepreneurs of every stage, always led to interesting conversation. There was a strong push for collaboration, coordination, cooperation, and especially celebration of what Tucson can create and accomplish in a knowledge based economy.
It was cool to see Harry George of Solstice Capital honored with the Hecker Future of Possibility Award, awarded to an individual or organization that is committed to building bright futures in the Tucson community. Mr. George has played a role in many Tucson based companies, including our friends at HTG Molecular, Calimmune, Tempronics, Medipacs, and Syncardia.
A huge thank you goes out to each sponsor and individual who helped organize, support, and execute this extraordinary event, including Tech Launch Arizona, McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship, City of Tucson, Aztera, and Marcus Engineering, just to name a few. Tango Commercial Real Estate is honored to be a part of this event from year one.
